    Lightning strike sparks fire at apartment in Northwest DC

    WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — Officials said a lightning strike caused a fire at an apartment in Northwest D.C. on Thursday night.

    This comes as thunderstorms roared across the DMV bringing strong winds and knocking over trees and power lines.

    The DC Fire and EMS Department said that just before 10 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 3700 block of Macomb Street. There, crews found a fire at an apartment on the 5th floor.

    Officials said the fire was brought under control and no one was hurt.

    During the investigation, fire officials determined that the fire was caused by a lightning strike that initially hit near the apartment’s AC unit.
