PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. ( DC News Now ) — One dad in Prince William County gifted his newly married son a winning $1 million Virginia Lottery ticket.

Virginia Lottery said Aaron Andrews got married in April. Since then, he and and his wife have lived in his father’s basement.

His father, who is an avid lottery player, bought a ticket for the Virginia Lottery’s Cash4Life drawing from the PJs Neighborhood Variety Store in Triangle.

With lady luck on his side, the ticket matched the first five winning numbers 25, 35, 36, 41 and 59. The winning prize was a choice of either $1,000 every week for the rest of his life or a one-time cash option of $1 million.

But, instead of picking an option for himself, he gave the ticket to Andrews as a wedding gift.

“I have a great father who has done nothing but look out for me!” Andrews told Virginia Lottery officials as the winning ticket was redeemed.

Officials said Andrews chose to get $1,000 every week. With the new gift, he said he is looking forward to buying a home for his bride.

As for Dad, he said jokingly, “This was the best way to get him out of my basement.”

Cash4Life is played in 10 states, including Virginia. It features a top prize of $1,000 per day for life and a second prize of $1,000 per week for life. Virginia Lottery said the odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 21.8 million.
