    Montgomery County police investigating after man was shot, killed in Silver Spring alley

    MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Police in Montgomery County were called to the Silver Spring area after a man was shot on Monday morning.

    In a post on X at 11:11 a.m., the Montgomery County Police Department said the shooting happened in the 8000 block of 13th St.

    Police said they were called to the area for a report of a person down. Once on the scene, officers found a man in an alleyway suffering from gunshot wounds.

    First responders attempted to save him, but he died there.

    Police said the scene was secured, but no suspects were in custody.

    The shooting has created a lot of concern for the residents who live nearby. Samuel Manas, who lives in an apartment complex close by, said it’s a tragedy.

    “Anytime anybody loses their life, especially in a violent way and especially in a town like this. It’s so quiet, it’s peaceful most of the time, people are really kind so, I’m really surprised,” Manas said. “I think in Silver Spring, you hear sirens, something has happened but it’s a nice town. I’m not particularly concerned about my personal safety.”

    Joe Ellis, visiting from South Carolina, said he heard loud noises when was in his room at the Holiday Inn Express.

    “It was slightly traumatic because the fact that we didn’t expect something like this to happen this close to us,” Ellis said. “Just to have something like this happen right outside your window, it’s really surprising.”
