ALEXANDRIA, Va. ( DC News Now ) — Monday not only marked Labor Day, the unofficial end of summer, but it also was the final day for many pools and waterparks around the DMV.

In Alexandria, the Great Waves Water Park shut down for the season at 6 p.m, giving families one last chance to soak up the summertime fun.

“I love the water park,” said Layla, who visited from Maryland with her family.

People across the DMV came to Alexandria for fun, including trips down the water slides, and tubing in the wave pool.

While most students in the area have already been in school for at least a week, Monday was one final chance to revisit summer fun.

“It’s beautiful that we at least get to come on the last day,” said Ebony Brown, who came from Prince George’s County.

“We feel great,” said Alejandro Portillo, who came with his family from Annapolis. “We had a good time with the fam.”

Throughout the day, parents were taking pictures and videos to capture moments of their kids, but some were also ready for the next chapter.

“I’m ready for these kids to go back to school,” said Shae Lynch of D.C. “Education first.”

“We’re all excited about the new school year, but a little bit sad summer’s over because it reminds you that the kids are getting bigger,” said Joe Vuckovich of Alexandria.
