HOWARD COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General has announced that it is investigating a deadly crash that happened in Howard County in August.

According to the Howard County Police Department (HCPD), the crash happened in North Laurel around 4 a.m. on Aug. 10. A man was riding a 2021 Suzuki GSX-S750 motorcycle near the 9400 block of Washington Boulevard where he attempted to make a left turn.

Police said that’s when he crashed into a flatbed truck that entered the road.

The motorcyclist, identified as 21-year-old Joshua Vanderziel of Laurel, died at the scene.

The Attorney’s Office said its preliminary investigation revealed that Howard County police reported to the IID that a non-HCPD police cruiser from a different jurisdiction had been observed near the crash.

At this point in the investigation, the investigations division said it is working to confirm the law enforcement agency the cruiser is connected to.
