    Arlington introduces food scrap, food-soiled papers collection bin pilot program

    ARLINGTON, Va. ( DC News Now ) — Arlington County is implementing a pilot program where residents can dispose of their food scraps and food-soiled paper in special bins around the county.

    The county has placed 14 on-street collection bins outside multifamily properties, allowing residents to toss their scraps in.

    Here’s how to utilize the collection bins:

    1. Download the Bigbelly Smart Compost app onto your smart phone.
    2. The composting app will show the locations of the collection bins, its availability and what it can accept.
    3. An unlock button will appear when you are near the bin. Tapping the button will unlock the bin.
    4. Open the bin’s lid and toss your scraps in before closing the lid.

    It’s that simple!

    The compostable bins can be found at these addresses:

    • Crystal Drive and 18th St. S.
    • 2910 S. Glebe Road.
    • 735 18th St. S.
    • 4500 block of N. Henderson Road.
    • N. Quincy Street and Washington Boulevard.
    • N. Pierce Street and Clarendon Boulevard.
    • N. Pierce Street and Wilson Boulevard.
    • 909 S. Dinwiddie St. (near bus stop).
    • Fairfax Drive and N Monroe Street.
    • Fairfax Drive and N Stuart Street.
    • Fairfax Drive and N Quincy Street (NW corner).
    • Wilson Boulevard and N Stuart Street (SE corner).
    • Wilson Boulevard and N Quincy Street (NE corner, near Capital Bikeshare station).
    • Wilson Boulevard and N Oakland Street (SE corner bus stop).
