    PHOTOS: DC police search for ATM card skimming suspect

    WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — Police in the District said they are looking for a man who placed a card skimming device at an ATM in Northeast D.C.

    On Wednesday, an employee found the device on an ATM in the 900 block of Rhode Island Avene NE. The employee called the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), who removed the device.

    MPD issued the following tips when making a card transaction:

    • Make sure the device isn’t able to be moved or budged when touched.
    • Compare your machine to the one next to you, if applicable.
    • Check the alignment of the card reader and the panel underneath it.
    • Look inside of the card reader before inserting your card.
    • If you see or suspect a card skimmer, please contact police immediately at 911.
    • Notify your bank immediately if you suspect you have been a victim of card skimming.

    Anyone who can identify the suspect or has more information is asked to contact MPD at (202) 727-9099 or should text the department at 50411.
