CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (WBOY) — The first of West Virginia’s fall hunting seasons kicked off on Monday, with youth hunters getting a chance to harvest squirrels before the main seasons begin over the next few months.

Youth squirrel season only lasts from Sept. 7-8, but it kicks off a full series of West Virginia game seasons that start next week.

Normal squirrel season as well as youth bear season starts next week on Sept. 14. And the highly anticipated whitetail deer season starts on Sept. 28 with archery and crossbow season. Antlerless firearm season starts on Oct. 24 in all but four West Virginia counties , and, as usual, buck firearm season starts the Monday before Thanksgiving, which is Nov. 25 this year.

Like with squirrel, youth hunters with have a few days head start on antlerless firearm deer season during a split season for youth, Class Q and Class XS hunters that starts on Oct. 19.

Fall turkey season starts on Oct. 12. In some counties, bear hunting already had part of a split season last week, but that split season resumes on Sept. 21.

For all hunters, keep in mind that there are several modifications to last year’s hunting regulations—the most notable being the change in buck bag limits .

All hunters age 15 or older are required to have a hunting license, and all unlicensed youth hunters must be accompanied by a licensed adult who is at least 18 years old. For a full list of seasons, regulations and limits, click here .
