    Intense fire leaves 3 people, 2 cats displaced in Northwest DC

    WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — Firefighters in D.C. rescued two cats after an intense fire broke out at a home in Northwest early Wednesday morning.

    According to the DC Fire and EMS Department ( DCFD ), just before 6 a.m., firefighters were called to battle a blaze at an apartment building in the 2100 block of 11th Street.

    There, DCFD said crews were greeted with heavy flames spewing from the building.

    Despite the intense flames, officials said firefighters quickly extinguished the fire.

    Crews said the fire had extended to the second floor, attic and an adjacent home.

    During the battle, first responders rescued two cats that are now safe, and no one was hurt.

    As of Wednesday morning, investigators are still working to learn what caused the fire.
