INWOOD, W.Va. ( DC News Now ) — Officers were investigating after a person shot and killed an intruder in Inwood early Wednesday morning.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) said that responders received a 911 call just after 3:45 a.m. from Michael Marshal “reporting that he had just shot an intruder in his mother’s vacant residence.”

Deputies responded to the home on Winchester Avenue and found 38-year-old Joshua Boone of Williamsport, Md. in the garage with a gunshot wound. They gave him aid until EMS arrived, but Boone died there.

BCSO said that Marshal told deputies that he had reported a break-in at the house on Aug. 27. After that, he installed motion sensors.

He went to the home on Wednesday after getting an alert that there was movement in the home.

Marshal told deputies that he saw Boone in the garage. Boone turned towards him “with something in his hand” before Marshal fired his handgun.

BCSO said that the investigation into this incident was ongoing.

He had no right to be in there and certainly was up to no good, but I'm not sure death was the proper punishment. I wonder if they knew each other. I agree with protecting your life, but I don't think that's what this was.
