STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. ( DC News Now ) — The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said deputies rescued a turkey after it “strutted a little too close to the roadway” in the early hours of Sunday.

Deputies said that at about12:30 a.m., they responded to the intersection of Shelton Shop Road and Oakwood Drive to find a turkey, dubbed Alicia Tur-Keys by the sheriff’s office, that was most likely hit by a car.

SCSO said Alicia Tur-Keys was stunned from what seemed to be a collision with a passing car.

Deputies were able to move the turkey from the roadway with the help of a “Good Samaritan.”

SCSO said the turkey seemed to have recovered from the “near-death experience” and was taken to the Stafford County Animal Shelter.

“Ms. Tur-Keys was subsequently cuffed, stuffed and transported to the Animal Shelter,” SCSO stated in a Facebook post . “She is being held without bond at the Animal Shelter on the charge of jaywalking. While she might be hoping for a presidential pardon, a purchase order for stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce was just approved.”

One Facebook user commented on the post hoping Alicia Tur-Key gets claimed soon.

“I hope you Miss Alicia Tur-Keys find a good home. I don’t want her to be Jaywalking and be caught and find her way into being headless and put in someone’s cooking pot,” the user commented.

“Will he be good size by Thanksgiving?” another Facebook user commented.

SCSO is encouraging the owner of Alicia Tur-Key to reach out to the animal shelter.
