HAGERSTOWN, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Thinking ahead to the weekend, if you are into vintage aircraft you won’t want to miss Saturday’s annual Wings Expo at the Hagerstown airport.

This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever.

The Aviation Museum showcases World War II B-29 and B-24 bombers as well as other combat vintage planes.

“Fairchild Aircraft was a huge provider of aircraft from World War II and beyond so it’s incredible to to learn about aviation history here in Maryland,” said Karen Hemingway with the Aviation Museum.

One aircraft showcased at the event this year is the Fairchild R C 26 B which served as a surveillance plane during World War II.

The museum’s executive director John Seburn said a lot of work has gone into getting the museum ready for the Expo on Saturday.

“Our volunteers have been putting the airplanes together,” said Seburn, “and we finally have everything here on display. It looks good.”

It’s an experience aviation enthusiasts won’t want to miss.

“In the big airplanes,” Seburn explains, “you can actually walk in and look inside the cockpit. It’s really cool.”

The celebration runs Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with official ceremonies set for 11:30 a.m.

“It’s going to be an amazing family-focused event,” said Hemingway. “Come one, come all!”
