WHEATON, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Montgomery County is striving to bring the community together with a free picnic this weekend.

This is the 10th annual “Friendship Picnic” from the county. It starts at noon on Sunday, Sept. 15 at Wheaton Regional Park on Shorefield Road and ends at 5 p.m.

According to a news release, the event will “bring people of many cultures and faiths together to celebrate the diversity of the County.”

The picnic will feature a variety of free food options, including American Kosher, Halal, Ethiopian and vegan options. There will also be activities for the whole family, such as “music, dancing, face painting, a petting zoo, a moon bounce, a carousel and rides on the park’s miniature train.”

Organizers said that there will also be small group discussions around “how to move towards a nonviolent community.”

If you are planning on attending, you don’t need to register — just show up during the hours of the event and partake in the festivities. You don’t have to bring any food or items, either.

You can park at the Wheaton Ice Rink and athletic fields and take a free satellite parking shuttle to and from the park.
