    Maryland State Police: Montgomery County firefighter hit by suspected DUI driver while respondign to crash on I-495

    MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — A firefighter was hit by a suspected DUI driver while working on a crash on Interstate 495 in Montgomery County Friday, police said.

    Maryland State Police (MSP) said that officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) units responded to the crash on I-495 near University Boulevard around 2:40 a.m.

    Several lanes were closed for the investigation. MSP said that the closure was marked by traffic cones, flares and two patrol cars with emergency lights on.

    According to the release, around 3 a.m., another car drove through the lane closure, hitting the two patrol cars and an MCFRS firefighter.

    The two patrol cars were unoccupied at the time of the crash. The firefighter, 54-year-old Michael Doylem, was taken to the hospital for treatment.

    Police said that the person driving the car, 45-year-old Alberto Zurita, was suspected of driving under the influence. He was arrested and transported to the Rockville Barracks for processing.

    No other injuries were reported.
