CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A 13-year-old Salem Church Middle School student has been charged with a felony after police say he made posts on social media threatening a shooting at the school.

On Tuesday, Sept. 10, the Chesterfield County Police Department received reports of social media posts threatening a shooting at “Salem” the following day.

As police investigated, they received reports of additional social media comments threatening violence at “Salem.”

Through an investigation, police identified a 13-year-old boy who attends Salem Church Middle School as the suspect who had made the posts.

Police said the investigation indicates that the suspect had no access to weapons and “no means” to carry out the online threats.

On Thursday, Sept. 12, police requested a juvenile petition for the student for threats of death or bodily injury to persons on school property, which is a felony. The petition was issued and the juvenile was then arrested and taken to the Chesterfield Juvenile Detention Home.

Anyone who sees or has any information about any threat is asked to call police at 804-748-1251.
