    Fairfax County police investigating after man is hit, killed by car

    FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. ( DC News Now ) — Fairfax County police said detectives are investigating after a car hit and killed a man as he was walking on the sidewalk on Friday morning.

    The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) said that at about 6 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of Franconia Road and Elder Avenue in Springfield for a person hit by a vehicle.

    Detectives determined that Julio Cesar Pasassi, 43, of Springfield, was walking west alongside the eastbound lanes of Franconia Road on the sidewalk when the driver of a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta drove off the road and hit him.

    Pasassi died at the scene.

    According to police, the driver of the Volkswagen left the vehicle at the scene and fled the area before officers arrived. Officers are working to identify them.
