PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Maryland State Police (MSP) have released new details after four people were taken to the hospital and a man died in a crash on Interstate 495 in Prince George’s County on Sunday.

On Sept. 15, just before 9 p.m., troopers responded to a collision involving a 2016 Honda Pilot and a 2018 Mercedes on the outer loop of I-495 at Route 50, in the Lanham area.

State police’s preliminary investigation indicated that a 19-year-old was driving a Honda on I-495 when he lost control and slammed into the back of the Mercedes. MSP said the Mercedes was stopped on the shoulder and the driver, 40-year-old Ayuk Etta, of Lanham, Maryland, was standing outside the car during the crash.

    He died at the scene.

Two passengers in the Mercedes were taken to the hospital for treatment and were later released.

MSP also learned that four young men, aged 17 to 19, were passengers in the Honda during the crash.

State police said two of the teens refused medical treatment. However, the other two were taken to the hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.

On Sunday night, several lanes on I-495 were blocked off for more than six hours.

The investigation is ongoing, but MSP said police believe excessive speed contributed to the crash.

Once the investigation is complete, the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office will determine if charges will be placed.
