UPPER MARLBORO, Md. ( DC News Now ) — The mother accused of shooting her 13-year-old daughter in Prince George’s County is being held without bond following a court appearance.

Prosecutors said 32-year-old Talecka Brown of Seat Pleasant called her daughter’s father Wednesday morning from jail and left him a voicemail saying “Attempted first-degree murder? C’mon that’s not me,” going on to say that if her daughter doesn’t make a statement and doesn’t go to court it will go away.

As Brown appeared via video conference, her public defender argued for home confinement saying her daughter will be living with her father elsewhere and that she had no violent past.

Assistant State’s Attorney Ashley Sowls outlined how a verbal argument between brown and her daughter turned physical at her Seat Pleasant home.

As the 13-year-old was walking down the steps, Brown shot her in the back of the neck.

The judge agreed with prosecutors that she’s a public threat.

“She did leave a voicemail this morning for the child’s father and no, at no time did she express any concern for how her child was doing,” said Sowls.

Portions of the bullet were found in the 13-year-old’s shoulder and abdomen.

Sowls said she’s in critical but stable condition with a chest tube.

The father said his daughter was in screeching pain but today she taking steps in the right direction so he is hopeful for her recovery.

“It’s going to take some time for her to recover from her physical injuries, but her emotional injuries that may last a lifetime,” said Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy.

Braveboy is concerned about Brown trying to further influence her daughter.

“We intend to vigorously pursue this case and continue to protect this victim and our entire community,” said Braveboy.

A preliminary hearing is set for October 25.
