    Frederick County crews battle fire at brewery in Mt. Airy

    FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — A fire raged through a winery in Frederick County early Thursday morning calling firefighters to the Mt. Airy area.

    Just after 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 26, the Frederick County Fire and Rescue Department responded to a “reported small building fire” in the 13600 block of Glissand Mill Road. This is where the Red Shedman brewery is located.

    Firefighters said when units arrived at the scene, they found heavy flames showing from the structure.

    No one was inside the building at the time of the fire and there were no injuries reported.

    County officials said 45 firefighters from Frederick, Carroll, Howard and Montgomery counties responded to the scene.

    The cause of the fire was still being investigated.

    The building was deemed a total loss and the fire is estimated to have cost around $800,000.
