WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — The Washington County Department of Water Quality has announced a precautionary boil water advisory for customers whose water is provided by the Fort Ritchie Water System.

This comes after a waterline break. Officials said the advisory will be lifted after the water service and quality are fully restored and water quality tests verify the water supply is safe to use.

Until then, the department is recommending customers boil all water used for food, teeth brushing, ice making, and drinking until further notice. All ice that was made within the past three hours, around noon, should not be used.

However, water can still be used for bathing and washing.

Customers are encouraged to bring the water to a rolling boil for at least one minute.

Officials said the waterline is expected to be restored by Thursday evening.
