HANOVER, Md. ( DC News Now ) — As the remnants of Tropical Storm Helene head toward the DMV region, road safety has become a major concern for state officials.

Charlie Gischlar, spokesperson for the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT), emphasized the importance of preparing for hazardous conditions. Gischlar highlighted key threats such as heavy rain, potential flooding, and debris on roads.

He told DC News Now that MDOT is actively implementing a preparedness plan, including pre-treating roads and monitoring potential closures due to high water levels.

Gischlar urged drivers to stay informed, avoid flooded areas, and ensure their vehicles are prepared for inclement weather, keeping both themselves and their families safe.
