STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. ( DC News Now ) — The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said a group of teenagers was arrested for trying to run from a car crash into a railing.

SCSO said on Sept. 26, just before 3 a.m., deputies responded to Smith Lake Park, located at 360 Doc Stone Road, for a car crash. Deputies were told that the car had smashed into the park’s gate and hit a sign as the driver was trying to get away.

At the crash site, deputies found alcohol.

The trio was found on Cliff Circle and detained. Two of the suspects were 18 and the other was a juvenile who had been reported missing, SCSO said.

The 18-year-old man was identified as the driver and SCSO said he was showing signs of intoxication. He did not have a driver’s license and he said he was running “for the fun of it.”

He was charged with driving under the influence, hit and run, driving without a license and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

Deputies returned the missing juvenile to her home.
