    Hispanic Heritage Festival and Health Fair coming to Wheaton

    MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Residents in Montgomery County will have the opportunity to enjoy live entertainment, purchase from Hispanic food vendors and receive free health screenings at the first Hispanic Heritage Festival and Health Fair in October.

    Montgomery County is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs until Oct. 15, by hosting the free festival at the Marian Fryer Town Plaza in Wheaton on Sunday, Oct. 6.

    The event will run from 11:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. and feature live music from Ocho de Bastos and Pepe Gonzalez, Luis Garay and more.

    Kids can make piñatas and guitars from recycled cardboard boxes, receive face paintings or take a photo in the photo booth.

    Throughout the event, festivalgoers can also receive free health screenings, visit resource tables and pick up resources.

    “Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the rich contributions and vibrant cultures that have helped shape Montgomery County into the diverse and inclusive community we are today,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. “This festival is an opportunity to honor those traditions while also offering important health services to our residents.”

    Street parking will be available around the venue, and a free shuttle service will be provided during the event’s duration at the following locations:

    • Germantown Transit Center: 19843 Crystal Rock Drive, Germantown.
    • Long Branch Community Recreation Center: 8700 Piney Branch Road, Silver Spring.
    • Wheaton High School: 12401 Dalewood Drive, Silver Spring.
    • Paint Branch High School: 141211 Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville.
    • Richard Montgomery High School: 250 Richard Montgomery Drive, Rockville.
