PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Police said no one was hurt after a Prince George’s County police officer fired their gun during a call at the Lerner Surrey Square Apartments on Sunday.

According to the Prince George’s County Police Department, on Oct. 6, around 8:20 p.m., officers responded to the 6000 block of Surrey Square Lane for a call about a woman feeling unsafe because of a disorderly man inside an apartment.

When police arrived, they learned that a man inside the apartment possibly had a gun and safely got everyone out of the apartment.

PGPD said as officers attempted to make contact with the man, one officer fired their gun.

The man was taken into custody, and police said a gun was located near him.

Details about what led the officer to use their weapon remain under investigation.

“What’s confirmed is an officer did use his weapon, what’s confirmed is the call was placed in by a citizen, what’s also confirmed is a gun was located,” said Major Harkirat Singh with PGPD, during a press conference.

Singh said the officer was wearing a body camera and was placed in an admin-duty status, until the investigation is complete.
