FREDERICK, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Maryland’s Sixth Congressional District extends west from Montgomery County, taking in Fredrick, Washington, Allegany and Garrett counties.

Republican Neil Parrott is making his third bid for the seat and Democrat April McLain-Delaney hopes to represent a district from which her husband, John Delaney, was Representative to Congress for three terms.

While both Parrott and McLain-Delaney hope to serve in the U.S. House, they are closely following the state’s race for U.S. Senate, with incumbent Democrat Ben Cardin retiring after this term.

Maryland candidates for US Senate see different priorities if elected

Republican Larry Hogan and Democrat Angela Alsobrooks are in the race to succeed Cardin.

“I’m thinking how our senator can bring some infrastructure funding, some good community project grants,” said McClain-Delaney. “Whatever can drive good living wages.”

“We need to make sure that we have a good partnership with the Senate. I need someone who will go there and fight inflation and try to balance the budget, create the good jobs we need, especially in western Maryland,” Parrott.
