    Metro Transit Police Department officer assaulted while trying to arrest suspects in Prince George’s County

    COLLEGE PARK, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Officials with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) said one of its officers was assaulted while trying to arrest a suspect at the College Park Metrorail station on Wednesday morning.

    Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) officers responded to the report of two suspects trying to steal scooters from the station. While they were trying to detain one of the suspects, he “physically resisted arrest and assaulted an officer.”

    During the struggle, an officer used pepper spray.

    Both of the suspects fled the scene. MTPD continues searching for them.

    The officer was not injured, WMATA confirmed.
