WVU football vs. Kansas State matchup preview

The last month for Kansas State has been a whirlwind on the gridiron. Back in September, the Wildcats crushed Arizona 31-7 in a nonconference game before BYU ran away with a 38-9 win over Kansas State to open Big 12 play. Head coach Chris Kleiman’s team then rerouted itself with a 42-20 victory over Oklahoma State, and then it secured its second conference win with a late 31-28 win on the road over Colorado after it had previously forfeited a fourth-quarter lead.

The Wildcats are sporting a No. 17 ranking in the AP Poll as a result. However, just like last week with Iowa State, they are in the same position as the Mountaineers in the Big 12 standings. Both teams will enter Saturday’s game with a 2-1 conference record and are tied for fourth place in the Big 12 standings.

Kansas State is one of two teams (BYU) with a top-five scoring offense (31.3 points per game) and a top-six scoring defense (21.0 points allowed per game) in the Big 12. UCF is the only team with a better rushing average than Kansas State (241 rushing yards per game), and no team in the conference is allowing fewer rushing yards per game than Kansas State (71.7 rushing yards allowed per game).

On both sides of the ball, Kansas State is struggling in the passing game. It is one of four teams in the conference throwing for fewer than 200 passing yards per game and one of four programs in the Big 12 allowing over 250 passing yards per game.
