STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. ( DC News Now ) — The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said an 82-year-old man flipped his car and had to be rescued Friday night after allegedly driving while intoxicated.

SCSO said on Oct. 11, just before 9:30 p.m., a SCSO deputy responded to the 1900 block of Mountain View Road for a car accident. There, they found an SUV that had flipped over and was resting upside-down on the roadway while the driver was still inside.

The deputy broke the rear car windows and got into the car to check on the driver. Due to the crash causing the possibility of a “serious spine injury” to the driver, the deputy decided to wait for fire and rescue staff to come to rescue the man, according to SCSO.

After the man was rescued from the car, SCSO said he was showing signs of intoxication, and there were open cans of beer found inside his vehicle.

The man admitted to drinking two beers before getting behind the wheel.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries, where he was held and issued a summons for driving under the influence, according to the sheriff’s office.
