MANASSAS, Va. ( DC News Now ) — On Tuesday, police in Prince William County charged a man with murder after t wo people were found dead in a home in Manassas.

The Prince William County Police Department (PWCPD) said that officers first received notice from authorities in New Jersey that 49-year-old Amandeep Singh of Manassas was in custody after an “incident” at a family member’s home there.

Due to concern about residents at a home in the 8900 block of Hanson Grove Ct. in Manassas, PWCPD officers performed a welfare check on Oct. 13 around 2:40 a.m.

Police found 45-year-old Joshua Lee Davis and 45-year-old Nicole Wanda Lynn Davis shot in the house’s basement. Both had died there.

PWCPD said that the victims were married and were renting the basement of the home. Other family members who were known to live there were found safe.

Investigators learned about an altercation on Oct. 12 that allegedly happened between Singh and two of the family members — both women were in their 50s. PWCPD said that during that altercation, Singh was armed with a gun and held both women against their will inside a bedroom in the home. Police said that he fired his gun near both of those members, but did not hit them.

He also was accused of hitting one of the women while holding the gun before “placing his hands around the neck of the other family member,” police said.

They eventually separated, and the two women left the home. PWCPD said that nobody reported this to the police immediately.

PWCPD said that Singh allegedly shot and killed the two victims “at some point” after that first incident. He then left for New Jersey to try to find his family.

While there, he found other family members, which led to police being notified and Singh’s arrest.

PWCPD said that even though the two victims knew the other family that was living in the home, investigators did not believe that they were involved in the previous incident.

Singh is being held in Burlington County, New Jersey, where he is awaiting extradition to Prince William County. He was charged with two counts of murder, four counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, two counts of abduction, one count of strangulation, one count of domestic assault and battery and two counts of discharging a firearm within an occupied dwelling in Prince William County.

PWCPD said that the investigation was still ongoing.
