SUITLAND, Md. ( DC News Now ) — A group of concerned citizens along with Prince George’s County leaders gathered Tuesday night to address crime and safety concerns.

The walk took place from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Penn Station Shopping Center in Suitland.

Police, business owners and concerned residents talked about crime issues that have been taking place in the area and what can be done to make the community safer.

Councilmember Krystal Oriadha and more than a dozen people participated in a community walk.

“We started residential walks in the community but we wanted to expand it to our commercial spaces so we brought out the community and local civic associations and HOA’s, the police department and the owner of the facility and businesses to talk about what is currently working and what we can do better,” Oriadha said.

The councilmember said the shopping center has seen an uptick in crime, loitering and trash being dumped there. She said county leaders plan to continue the community walks to engage with locals and have follow-up meetings to learn how to improve safety.
