As the investigation continued, deputies were involved in a pursuit with the suspect.

The sheriff’s office said the chase started in Lexington Park and ended in the 15000 block of Prince Frederick Road in the Hughesville area of Charles County.

There, officers took the suspect into custody, who appeared to be suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to the SMCSO, no shots were fired by law enforcement, and he was taken to the hospital for treatment. His condition was unknown as of Wednesday afternoon.
