Mother pleads guilty in death of 3-year-old daughter, DC officials say

WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — A 28-year-old woman pleaded guilty on Tuesday after being charged in the death of her 3-year-old daughter, which happened nearly two years ago.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) charged Sasha McCoy with voluntary manslaughter after he daughter died from fentanyl poisoning on Oct. 28, 2022.

At about 1 p.m. on that day, McCoy placed her two kids in bed for a nap. When she went to check in on her children, she found her 3-year-old daughter unconscious and unresponsive.

She later died at the hospital.

A small plastic bag was found on top of the bed, containing two blue round pills with 4-ANPP, Acetaminophen, Fentanyl, Flurofentanyl and other substances, as well as half of a Xanax tablet.

Medical examiners determined the 3-year-old died from Fentanyl and Flurofentanyl intoxication.

McCoy faces four to 10 years in prison, which would be followed by five years of supervised release. She has been in prison since first being arrested on Feb. 15, 2024.
