USAO: 19-year-old charged for shooting teen in head in Southeast DC

WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — A 19-year-old from Hyattsville, Md., was charged for shooting a 15-year-old three times in Southeast D.C. earlier this year, the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) announced Wednesday.

The USAO said the teenager was shoveling snow with a group of friends and relatives in their Southeast D.C. neighborhood on Jan. 19, 2024. Christ Tchakounte, 19, and an accomplice parked their car in a nearby alley and flanked the boy at the intersection of 16th Street and A Street SE.

Tchakounte shot the victim three times and fled after the teen collapsed in the street.

The victim survived after several months of intensive care.

Tchakounte was charged with seven counts, including intent to kill while armed, aggravated assault while armed and carrying a pistol without a license, among other offenses.
