VIRGINIA ( DC News Now ) — The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) announced that it is bringing back its Restore the Wild Artwork Competition.

The contest is a way to support Restore the Wild’s mission to create and maintain habitats for wildlife to thrive around Virginia. All entries will be on display at a public exhibition and the winning pieces will be used to promote Restore the Wild’s mission.

This year’s theme is diving underwater. Artists are asked to submit a piece that features the Atlantic sturgeon, the “dinosaur of the tidal rivers,” DWR said. The gigantic fish travels up Virginia’s tidal rivers during the spring and fall seasons and can be seen arcing out of the water and splashing around.

Artists can choose from several categories: Natural History Illustration, Artistic Expression, Youth 10 and Under and Youth 11-17.

All entries need to be submitted by Feb. 3, 2025.
