49th Annual Marine Corps Marathon to close many roads in Arlington

ARLINGTON, Va. ( DC News Now ) — The 49th Annual Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) is just over a week away, starting on Sunday, Oct. 27, along with the MCM 50K and 10K.

In light of the races, Arlington County officials announced some reminders for drivers, pedestrians and runners in the area.

For Marine Corps Marathon runners

The MCM recommended that runners arrive as early as possible before their start time in order to get through the security checkpoint, drop off bags and line up. For directions on getting to the race start and finish, click here .

Runners, supporters and volunteers are encouraged to use Metro, ridesharing or other forms of transportation. The closest Metro access to the start of the race are the Pentagon and Pentagon City Stations (Blue and Yellow lines). The closest Metro access to the Finish Festival is at the Rosslyn station (Blue, Orange or Silver lines).

The Metro will open at 5 a.m. on race day.

Rideshare drop-off and pick-up zones are in the following locations:

• Morning events – 1100-1200 block of S. Hayes Street
• Afternoon events – 1900 block of N. Lynn Street
• Finish Festival – 1900 block of N. Lynn Street

For drivers, pedestrians and Arlington County residents

The Arlington County Police Department, Virginia State Police, United States Park Police and Pentagon Force Protection Agency will close several roadways throughout Arlington in support of the races.

Some roads will also close in Washington, D.C.

From about 3 a.m. to 6 p.m., the following roads will be closed in Arlington County:

• Fort Myer Drive, from Eastbound Langston Boulevard to N. Meade Street
• N. Lynn Street, from 19 ^th Street N. to N. Meade Street
• N. Moore Street, from 19 ^th Street N. to Wilson Boulevard
• Wilson Boulevard, from N. Oak Street to Southbound Route 110
• 17 ^th Street N., from Clarendon Boulevard to N. Lynn Street
• Northbound lanes of N. Oak Street, from Wilson Boulevard to 18th Street N.
• N. Oak Street, from Clarendon Boulevard to 17 ^th Street N.
• N. Nash Street, from Wilson Boulevard to 17 ^th Street N.

• Fort Myer Drive, from 19th Street N. to Langston Boulevard
• N. Moore Street, from 19th Street N. to Langston Boulevard
• Langston Boulevard (Eastbound lanes only), from N. Lynn Street to N. Kirkwood Road
• Spout Run Parkway (Westbound lanes only), from Langston Boulevard to George Washington Parkway
• N. Lorcom Lane, from N. Edgewood Street to Spout Run Parkway
• N. Lynn Street, from 19 ^th Street N. to Key Bridge

From about 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., the following roads will be closed in Arlington County:

• Westbound 15 ^th Street S., from S. Eads Street to S. Bell Street
• Ramp from Southbound Richmond Highway to 15 ^th Street S.
• Ramp from Northbound Richmond Highway to 15 ^th Street S.
• Ramp to Northbound Richmond Highway from 15 ^th Street S.
• Southbound Richmond Highway, from Southbound I-395 to the 1200 block of Richmond Highway

From about 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., the following roads will be closed in Arlington County:

• Fort Myer Drive, from Key Bridge to Eastbound Langston Boulevard
• N. Nash Street, from Westbound Langston Boulevard to Eastbound Langston Boulevard
• N. Moore Street from Langston Boulevard to 19 ^th Street N.
• Long Bridge Drive, from Boundary Drive to 12 ^th Street S.
• 6 ^th Street S., from Long Bridge Drive to S. Ball Street
• S. Ball Street, from 6 ^th Street S. to 10 ^th Street S.
• 10 ^th Street S., from Long Bridge Drive to S. Ball Street
• 12 ^th Street S., from S. Eads Street to Crystal Drive
• Southbound Richmond Highway from I-395 Southbound to the 1200 block of Richmond Highway
• Crystal Drive, from 12 ^th Street S. to 23 ^rd Street S.
• 15 ^th Street S., from S. Bell Street to Crystal Drive
• 18 ^th Street S., from S. Bell Street to Crystal Drive
• 20 ^th Street S., from S. Bell Street to Crystal Drive
• I-395 North Exit 10A to Boundary Channel Drive
• I-395 South Exit 10A to Boundary Channel Drive
• I-395 South Exit 9 to Clark Street

At about 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 – the day before the race – Southbound Route 110 will be closed from Washington Boulevard to Route 1. It will re-open at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27.

There will be an increase in police presence during the races and drivers are asked to follow officers’ directions, be mindful of closures and remain alert for increased pedestrians.

Motorists should also look out for temporary “No Parking” signs.
