DNR Looking for Help with Annual Turkey Survey
(Lewis) The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is asking for the public’s help with its wild turkey production survey for July and August. John Lorenzen, with the DNR Office in Lewis, says participants are to note the date and the county where the turkey was seen, mark down if it is an adult female or male, and indicate the number of poults present. Lorenzen says the DNR uses the information to gauge next year’s population in part by nest success.
'Saved a lot of lives': Warren County dog rescue closing its doors
PROLE, Iowa — An animal shelter in Warren County is closing its doors. The Second Chance Dog Rescue in Prole says it does not have enough volunteers or funds to properly care for the animals. It says it is working to get all the dogs into foster homes or adopted.

Iowa DNR issues water advisory for Lake Manawa, Prairie Rose Lake
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (WOWT) - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is advising against swimming in Lake Manawa, along with 14 other beaches across the state. The DNR says swimming is not recommended in Lake Manawa because of E. coli concerns. Swimming is not advised in Prairie Rose Lake near Harlan in Shelby County; the same is true for Blue Lake in Lewis and Clark State Park across the Missouri River from Decatur, Neb.
