INSIGHT KANSAS: Kansas childcare is unaffordable for most families
Last month during the state legislature’s special budget session, one contentious issue in the budget bill was doubling the state’s childcare tax credit. Rep. Mark Steffen (R-Hutchinson) made comments saying the tax credit served as an “incentive” for mothers to enter the workforce and weaken “traditional families”.

Sporting Kansas City (7-7-4, 27 points) earned a suberb 3-1 home win over rivals St. Louis City 2 (11-4-2, 36 points) on Sunday at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kansas. Lawrence school board to consider approving teacher raises, handbook that bans cell phone usage
Lawrence teachers could receive raises and several staff members stipend increases this fall, based on the tentative contract up for the school board’s approval Monday. Lawrence Education Association, the district’s teachers union, came to an agreement with the district during a negotiations meeting on June 25. The tentative contract for 2024-25 increases the base annual salary by $1,400 for teachers.

The study by LendingTree used insurance claim data from the 50 largest cities in the U.S. to determine how many traffic incidents were speeding-related. This included speeding tickets or accidents where speeding was determined to be a factor.

KANSAS CITY—A teen driver died after an accident just before 5a.m. Saturday in Jackson County, Missouri. According to police, a Nissan Altima driven by 18-year-old Joshua Snowbarger was southbound on Noland Road, approaching 35th Street in Independence. The driver lost control of the car.
