Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule wants to see the Big Ten proportionally represented in the new 12-team College Football Playoff. Bayard man sentenced for falsification of union financial reports
United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced that Donald Fox, 55, of Bayard, Nebraska, was sentenced on July 24, 2024 in federal court in Lincoln, Nebraska for four counts of falsification of annual financial reports filed by a labor union. Senior United States District Judge John M. Gerrard sentenced Fox to four years of probation. Fox will also have to serve five weekends in jail. Fox has also been ordered to pay $14,874.05 in restitution to the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 1836. Prior to sentencing, Fox paid $9,746.07 in restitution back to the union.
Local Truck Inspections Held in Fremont
Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) Carrier Enforcement Division conducted local commercial vehicle inspections on July 23rd and 24th in Fremont, Nebraska. During this effort, the Metropolitan Aggressive and Prevention Selective (MAPS) Team conducted 66 vehicle inspections. Troopers discovered 154 violations of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and state law. Troopers placed 16 vehicles out of service (not allowed to return to the road). Additionally, troopers issued a total of 35 CVSA decals. The decals indicate that the vehicle inspected did not have any immediate safety issues.

New Mayor Appointed, New Council Member Needed
The City of Gothenburg has a new mayor. At the July 16 council meeting, Mayor Will Rahjes submitted his resignation – but not because he no longer wants to serve. Quite the opposite in fact. Rahjes was forced to step down from his mayoral position due to a city ordinance that requires the mayor – as well as all elected officials and most appointed positions – to reside within the city limits. Rahjes and his wife recently purchased a home that lies just over two miles outside of that limit.
