Netflix announced on Tuesday that For Your Approval , its new stand-up special from Ellen Degeneres, which will mark the final hour of her career, will premiere globally on September 24.

Marking Degeneres’ second special for the platform, on the heels of 2018’s Relatable , For Your Approval should be much-discussed, as she uses it to get personal and reveal what she’s been doing since being “kicked out of show business.” From the mundane world of raising chickens and parallel parking to the harsh reality of becoming a brand name celebrity, she goes deep into her stand-up roots and brings the laughs through life’s most real and absurd realities.

“To answer the questions everyone is asking me – Yes, I’m going to talk about it. Yes, this is my last special. Yes, Portia really is that pretty in real life,” said Degeneres when her final hour was first announced back in May.

When she says “it,” Degeneres is referring to her controversy-laden exit from The Ellen DeGeneres Show , after allegations of a toxic workplace culture emerged in 2020. She ended her run there as host and executive producer on May 26, 2022, following 19 seasons, during which the show garnered 64 Daytime Emmy Awards. Among those were 12 statuettes for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show, which made her show the record holder in that category.

Joel Gallen directed For Your Approval , with Ben Winston and Fulwell 73 Productions producing alongside DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi. Returning to stand-up with the special for the first time in six years, Degeneres took a 15-year-hiatus before the release of her prior special, Relatable , which was nominated for a Grammy. Prior to that, she put out the specials The Beginning and Here and Now , both of which were for HBO and garnered multiple Emmy nominations.

Before her decades-long run with The Ellen DeGeneres Show , Degeneres came to international recognition with her ABC sitcom Ellen , which saw her make TV history with her character coming out as gay, just after she did so in real life. She’s also known for her CBS sitcom The Ellen Show , voicing the character of Dory in the iconic Pixar film Finding Nemo , her NBC game show Ellen’s Game of Games , her frequent hosting of top-tier awards shows like the Oscars, and more.

Setting out on a a multi-city stand-up tour in June, which kicked off in San Diego, the multi-hyphenate show biz icon is represented by CAA and Yorn, Levine, Barnes.
