Chappell Roan was one of the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards winners and delivered one of the night’s most powerful messages.

The “Good Luck, Babe” singer took the trophy for Best New Artist and dedicated the win to the queer community.

“I dedicate this to all the drag artists who inspire me. And I dedicate this to queer & trans people that fuel pop,” Roan said as the star read from a diary.

Roan continued, “And for all the queer kids in the Midwest watching right now, I see you, I understand you because I’m one of you. And don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t be exactly who you want to be b***.”

Roan shared the Best New Artist category with artists like Benson Boone, Gracia Abrams, Shaboozey, Teddy Swims, and Tyla.

Earlier in the night, Roan took the stage to perform her hit “Good Luck, Babe!”, giving visuals reminiscent of Joan of Arc, which many are calling Roan of Arc.

Roan recently went viral for calling out “creepy” fans , saying in a statement online that she needed “to draw lines and set boundaries” for her safety.

“If you’re still asking, ‘Well, if you didn’t want this to happen, then why did you choose a career where you knew you wouldn’t be comfortable with the outcome of success?’ — understand this: I embrace the success of the project, the love I feel, and the gratitude I have,” she said. “What I do not accept are creepy people, being touched, and being followed.”

She later added, “I want to love my life, be outside, giggle with my friends, go to the movie theater, feel safe, and do all the things every single person deserves to do.”
