HBO has picked up to series The Chair Company , its half-hour comedy pilot starring Tim Robinson who co-wrote it with his writing partner Zach Kanin.

The pickup for The Chair Company , which Robinson and Kanin executive produce with Adam McKay and Todd Schulman, follows the series order earlier this week for HBO’s other 2024 comedy pilot, an untitled ensemble half-hour written, executive produced by and starring Rachel Sennott, making for a 2-for-2 pilot-to-series batting average.

With HBO also recently handing a straight-to-series order to a Bill Lawrence-Matt Tarses comedy starring Steve Carell, this marks the largest contingent of new comedy series at the premium network in years as HBO had ramped up half-hour development in light of stalwarts Curb Your Enthusiasm and Barry coming to an end and the the pending departure of Somebody, Somewhere.

The Chair Company and the Rachel Sennott series follow HBO’s tradition of comedies from creators-performers that include such signature series as The Larry Sanders Show, Girls, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Barry.

In The Chair Company , after an embarrassing incident at work, William Ronald Trosper (Robinson) finds himself investigating a far-reaching conspiracy.

Set as series regulars alongside Robinson are Lake Bell as Barb Trosper, Sophia Lillis as Natalie Trosper, Will Price as Seth Trosper, and Joseph Tudisco as Mike Santini. Lou Diamond Phillips guest starred in the pilot, directed and executive produced by Andrew DeYoung.

“With an imprint only Tim and Zach can have on a character, William Ronald Trosper follows in the strong tradition of HBO comedy leads,” said Amy Gravitt, EVP, HBO & Max Comedy Programming. “I couldn’t be happier to announce the pickup of this wildly enjoyable show.”

Robinson and Kanin executive produce alongside McKay and Schulman for HyperObject Industries as well as Igor Srubshchik.

“We are so excited and thankful to get to make this show with HBO, HyperObject, and all of the amazing cast and crew that have helped to create it,” Robinson and Kanin said.

This marks the latest collaboration for Robinson and Kanin who met while working together as writers on Saturday Night Live . They previously co-created two series, in which Robinson also starred, Detroiters for Comedy Central and award-winning sketch comedy I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson for Netflix.

The latter released its third season in May. The franchise, which includes a comedy tour, I Think You Should Leave Live: Tim Robinson & Zach Kanin, remains alive at the streamer with new installments possible.

Robinson, who started on SNL as a performer, is repped by CAA, Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller. Kanin is repped by WME and Jackoway Austen. McKay/Hyperobject are repped by WME and JSSK. DeYoung repped by WME and Rise Management.
