‘Descendants: The Rise Of Red’ Breaks Record With 3-Day Viewership On Disney+

With 6.7M views in its first three days of streaming, the film is now Disney Branded Television’s most-viewed DCOM premiere ever on the streamer, according to Disney.

This is a fairly big number for any Disney+ release, though it’s difficult to compare directly with other titles, as the streamer has been inconsistent with the viewership data that it reports. Earlier this year, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour film debuted to 4.6M views in three days.

When Percy Jackson and the Olympians debuted in December, Disney+ announced that series’ six-day viewership tally . In June, Disney released one-day viewership data for The Acolyte , which was around 4.8M views. The streamer later circulated a five-day viewership total for that premiere. Loki Season 2 also got three-day viewership numbers in October. As one of the most popular series on Disney+, it generated more than 10M views in that time frame.

Kids titles are a big draw for Disney+, which is why it makes sense that Descendants: The Rise of Red would perform well right out of the gate. Disney+ defines views as hours viewed divided by runtime, so once again it’s not a completely direct comparison, but the third Descendants film drew just over 8M viewers when it premiered on Disney Channel. That indicates that the film performed similarly to how it might have if it had a linear TV debut.

The film will make its way to cable on August 9, and it will likely perform well once again when it airs on Disney Channel.

According to Disney, the film is generating a ton of buzz off the streamer as well. The Descendants: The Rise of Red soundtrack already has more than 26M streams across platforms, and the hashtag #Descendants has garnered over 95M views in the U.S., in addition to over 9B views globally.

Descendants: The Rise of Red follows the story of Red, the rebellious daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe, Cinderella’s perfectionist daughter. When the tyrannical Queen of Hearts incites a coup against Auradon, polar opposites Red and Chloe must join forces and travel back in time to undo the traumatic event that set Red’s mother down her villainous path.
