EXCLUSIVE : David Rysdahl ( Fargo ) has been tapped to star opposite Lily Sullivan in SOULM8TE , Atomic Monster and Blumhouse’s new film out of the M3GAN universe, Deadline has learned.

In the film from director Kate Dolan ( You Are Not My Mother ), Rysdahl plays a man who acquires an Artificially Intelligent android (Sullivan) to help him cope with the recent loss of his deceased wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, the man inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate.
Dolan is directing after rewriting the original draft from Rafael Jordan ( Salvage Marines ), which was based on a story by James Wan, Ingrid Bisu and Jordan. Sources tell us this film is a deal more risqué than M3GAN , falling in the tradition of ’90s domestic thrillers but with a modern, technological twist.
Wan and Jason Blum will produce, with Michael Clear and Judson Scott of Wan’s Atomic Monster exec producing alongside Ingrid Bisu. Alayna Glasthal is the executive overseeing the project for Atomic Monster.

SOULM8TE was put into motion following the huge surprise success of M3GAN , a horror thriller centered on a life-like, robotic doll, which broke out in January 2023 with over $181 million at the global box office. A sequel, titled M3GAN 2.0 , with Allison Williams and Violet McGraw returning, is also currently in the works for a June 27, 2025 release in theaters.
Currently, Rysdahl can be seen starring opposite Juno Temple, Jon Hamm and Jennifer Jason Leigh in Season 5 of Noah Hawley’s Fargo , which is up for 15 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. Appearing last year in both Christopher Nolan’s Best Picture winner Oppenheimer and the Black Mirror Season 6 episode, “Mazey Day,” the actor is otherwise best known for roles in the 20th/Hulu thriller No Exit and the Sundance drama Nine Days , released by Sony Pictures Classics.
Up next, Rysdahl will be seen in Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth , an Alien prequel series for FX/Hulu. The rising thesp is repped by WME, Entertainment 360, and Granderson Des Rochers.
