Boyzone’s Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Shane Lynch and Michael Graham are to take part in their first joint interviews for three decades in a Sky doc about one of the most successful boy bands of all time in Britain.

Boyzone [working title] will reveal the personal experiences of the band members, who sold more than 25 million records worldwide. They will talk candidly about how they grappled with the true cost of global fame, while the doc will also include contributions from those closest to Stephen Gately, another former member who died in 2009. Louis Walsh will contribute and there will be never-been-seen archive footage from the group’s early career.

Overall, the doc will examine the key events that shaped Boyzone, including the highs and lows of global stardom, the intense tabloid intrusion in ’90s Britain forcing Gately to come out, and after a sensational comeback in 2007, Gately’s death, which the remaining members have never recovered from.

Produced by Curious Films, the Sky series is the latest for the pay-TV network’s growing docs channel. Sky execs are on their way up to Edinburgh TV Festival, where they will be talking up the likes of the new Vitali Klitschko doc.

Hayley Reynolds, Acting Director of Documentaries and Factual at Sky, said: “Boyzone’s music has touched millions over the last thirty years, and Sky is thrilled to be bringing this exclusive new series to our customers in the UK and Ireland. Curious Films’ pedigree for sophisticated and intelligent storytelling, as well as deep, privileged access to both the band and Louis Walsh, promises to get under the skin of their extraordinary story with an unrivalled level of insight.”

Boyzone (w/t) is a Curious Films production, commissioned for Sky Documentaries by Poppy Dixon, Director of Documentaries and Factual and Tom Barry, Commissioning Editor. Execs for Sky are Tom Barry and Reynolds. It is directed by Sophie Oliver and Executive Produced by Dov Freedman and Charlie Russell.
