Neon has picked up U.S. rights to Hell of a Summer , the horror comedy written and directed by Finn Wolfhard ( Stranger Things ) and Billy Bryk ( When You Finish Saving the World ) in their feature debut, from 30West. A release date has not yet been disclosed.

Starring Wolfhard, Bryk and Fred Hechinger ( Gladiator 2 ), the film fully financed and exec produced by 30West follows 24-year-old camp counselor Jason Hochberg (Hechinger), who arrives at Camp Pineway thinking his biggest problem is that he feels out of touch with his teenage co-workers. What he doesn’t know is that a masked killer is lurking on the campgrounds, brutally picking counselors off one by one.

Hell of a Summer was produced by Wolfhard, Bryk, Hechinger, Aggregate Films’ Michael Costigan and Jason Bateman, Drew Brennan, and Parts & Labor’s Jay Van Hoy. In her review of the film out of last year’s Toronto Film Festival, where it world premiered, Deadline’s Valerie Complex wrote, “With a cast that shines and two budding directors showcasing immense promise, this is one flick thats bound to leave the audience with a smile on their face and a knife in their back.”

Recently seeing its biggest success to date with the Maika Monroe-Nicolas Cage horror pic Longlegs , which has now crossed $100M globally , Neon has also bolstered its genre cred of late with the release of the Hunter Schafer starrer Cuckoo and Black Bear’s Immaculate starring Sydney Sweeney. Already, the company has gotten back in business with Perkins, C2 and Black Bear on The Monkey , a buzzy adaptation of the Stephen King short story starring Theo James, which hits theaters on February 21, 2025. In addition, Neon will release Perkins’ forthcoming feature Keeper , starring Tatiana Maslany and Rossif Sutherland, and will reteam with Monroe on They Follow , the anticipated sequel to David Robert Mitchell’s modern classic horror film It Follows .

At this year’s Toronto Film Festival, Neon will world premiere Joshua Oppenheimer’s musical The End , starring Tilda Swinton, which the company also produced. Additionally, it will see its Palme d’Or winner Anora from filmmaker Sean Baker screen in its Canadian premiere.

Jason Wald negotiated the deal for Hell of a Summer on behalf of Neon, with 30West and CAA Media Finance repping the filmmakers.
