A Closer Look , one of the most popular segments on Seth Meyers’ Late Night, is getting another primetime special.

The political news segment will air an hourlong special, Closer Look Primetime , live on September 11 at 10pm on NBC.

It comes four years after Meyers debuted A Closer Look , which often draws millions of views on YouTube, as a primetime special in October 2020.

It’s somewhat of a surprise given that even Meyers himself joked in the past that the previous primetime special “under indexed with audiences”.

“It was very funny because I think the original plan was to do three of those and then somehow it became one. It was really exciting to do because A Closer Look live is so much talking and I’m very proud of the fact there wasn’t a stumble or a flub there,” he told Deadline. “I feel like the old SNL butterflies came back in a good way to get through that on a live Closer Look. I will say when it was over, the network didn’t call and ask us to do another one.”

The network has since called and Meyers will now use the latest special to examine the Presidential Debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, which will have aired the night before.

Sal Gentile is head writer for A Closer Look , which airs three times a week, and is helped by Meyers and Late Night head writer Alex Baze. The show is produced by Universal Television and Broadway Video with Lorne Michaels as exec producer and Mike Shoemaker as producer.

It comes as the show is once again up for the Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series.
