‘Elton John: Never Too Late’ Set For European Premiere At London Film Festival

The London Film Festival (LFF) has set Elton John: Never Too Late as one of the gala screenings at this year’s festival, which is set to run October 9 — 20.

The film will screen on Thursday October 10 at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall.

Directed by R.J. Cutler and David Furnish, the documentary follows Elton John as he looks back on his life and the early days of his 50-year career. The synopsis reads: As he prepares for his final concert in North America at Dodger Stadium, the legendary singer recounts the highs and lows of his early years and how he overcame adversity, abuse, and addiction to become the icon he is today.

The original documentary from Disney Branded Television is produced by Rocket Entertainment and This Machine Filmworks. Cutler and Furnish also serve as producers alongside Trevor Smith. Elise Pearlstein, Mark Blatty, Luke Lloyd Davies, Rachael Paley, Jane Cha Cutler, and John Battsek serve as executive producers.

“Directors R.J. Cutler and David Furnish bring a great intimacy and exhilaration to the story of one of the world’s most accomplished and beloved musicians,” said Matheson. “We’re delighted to present Elton John: Never Too Late and give audiences a front-row seat to one of the most electrifying creative careers of our age.”

The BFI has already announced that LFF will open with Steve McQueen’s latest feature Blitz . The pic is an exploration of London during World War 2 and will screen as a world premiere.

Directed, produced, and written by McQueen, the film follows the epic journey of George (Elliott Heffernan), a 9-year-old boy in World War II London whose mother Rita (Saoirse Ronan) sends him to safety in the English countryside. The Synopsis reads: George, defiant and determined to return home to Rita and his grandfather Gerald (Paul Weller) in East London, ensues on an adventure, only to find himself in immense peril, while a distraught Rita searches for her missing son. Blitz marks McQueen’s first sole feature screenwriting credit.
