EXCLUSIVE : The Castaic Studios in Santa Clarita, north of LA, is in the final stages of being sold to producer and filmmaker Carl Jackson of Carl Jackson Studios, we understand.

The lot, encompassing 70,000 square feet of production space, offers production and post-production facilities, including six sound stages, two screening rooms, editing bays, production offices, green rooms and spaces for wardrobe and makeup. There is also an 80-acre backlot with canyons, trails, and outdoor filming locations.

Financial details of the transaction are not being disclosed, though Jackson told us the property was appraised at $65M by real estate firm Justmann & Associates in September 2023.

The acquisition from Castaic Studios LLC was financed by Carl Jackson Entertainment, LLC, a Texas corporation, with the studio’s intended remodeling due to be funded by Texas outfit Michael Land & Associates.

Going forward, the studio will house Carl Jackson Studios productions as well as third party shoots. First up will be genre movie Arthur And Bree , starring Natasha Tosini ( Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey ), and a game show called GIF War . Recent Carl Jackson Studios projects include LAX 2 Paris , starring Andrea McClew, sci-fi film Virtual Time , with British actress Amber Doig-Thorne, and the animated feature Adam and Eve , a co-production with Biblical Studios.

Castaic Studios has previously hosted productions from Netflix, Hulu, HBO and The Food Network, as well as shoots for large brands. It was recently tenanted by production outfit Wonderland but according to Jackson they are no longer based at the studio and according to legal filings Castaic’s former owner has been engaged in a legal dispute with the production company. We have reached out to Wonderland’s principal for comment.

Carl Jackson Studios has a multi-picture deal with LA-based financiers Bondit/Buffalo 8. Jackson, who is understood to have multiple real-estate interests, has previously operated a production facility in San Diego but says the company has outgrown that space. He previously acquired 200 acres of land in El Paso, Texas, but that project didn’t take off, and has subsequently acquired land outside Frisco, Texas, and is in the design and fundraising phase for that facility.

Jackson has been in the industry for more than 20 years, starting as a music video director before transitioning to film. He has directed 15 low-budget films and has ten in various stages of development.

Jackson stated: “I am truly humbled that we have the opportunity not only to expand space in Los Angeles for our own productions, but also to offer it to others, continuing the legacy of the studio’s storied past. Yahusha must love me.”
