Roselyn Sanchez Begins Production On Her Feature Directorial Debut ‘Diario, Mujer & Café’ In Puerto Rico

EXCLUSIVE: Roselyn Sanchez ( Satos , Death of a Vegas Showgirl ) is set to make her feature directorial debut with Diario, Mujer & Café , a feature she penned currently in production in her native Puerto Rico.

The film stars Angélica Vale ( La Fea Más Bella) , Marisé Álvarez ( Obi-Wan Kenobi ), Karla Monroig and Angelique Burgos as best friends known as the Tiki Tikis who embark on an experience of a lifetime when they reunite for an action-packed girl’s trip throughout Puerto Rico. Their friendship and strong female bond become a catalyst of growth and empathy. It’s the trip they didn’t know they needed.

Sanchez is best known for her acting roles in films like Rush House 2 , The Game Plan and Act of Valor and TV’s Fantasy Island for FOX, Devious Maids for Lifetime and the CBS procedural Without A Trace . Most recently, she wrote and directed the award-winning short Satos , also filmed in San Juan.

“After many years of contemplating the possibility of writing and directing my own movies to transition into another phase of my career, this film is the beginning of an amazing dream that has now come to fruition. I’m incredibly honored to have such a wonderful cast and crew joining me on this venture. To write and direct a love letter to my Island of PR through the lens of comedy brings me so much joy,” Sanchez, also a producer and singer, shared in a statement.

Puerto Rico has a competitive film incentive with a transferable tax credit equal to 40% of local spending including labor and 20% of all non-resident costs with additional bonuses for local producers. To boost film production on the island even more, the current Governor assigned $74 million from the American Rescue Plan Act funds to eligible film projects. Diario, Mujer &Café was the recipient of one of these grants.

In addition to Sanchez, producers also include Anne Clements ( Quinceañera , Fantasy Island ), Paul Kampf ( Harvest , Satos ), Frances Lausell ( Fantasy Island , Undercard ) and Andres Ramirez ( Undercard ). Jessica Beltrán, Katia Reguero Lindor, Irmarie Marquez-Báez, Susan Henry, Anna Di Marco and Manuel Cintron are executive producing.
