EXCLUSIVE: The Institute , MGM+ ‘s thriller series based on the 2019 Stephen King novel, has rounded out its cast. Brendan Beiser ( The Boys ) is set as a series regular, and Mary Walsh ( Resident Alien) and Jordan Alexander ( Gossip Girl) have been tapped for recurring roles in the series from director/executive producer Jack Bender ( Lost, Mr. Mercedes ), writer/executive producer Benjamin Cavell ( Justified, The Stand ) and MGM+ Studios. Production will begin in Nova Scotia later this year.

They join previously announced Mary-Louise Parker, Ben Barnes, Simone Miller and Jason Diaz, along with Joe Freeman, Fionn Laird, Hannah Galway, Julian Richings, Robert Joy, Viggo Hanvelt, Arlen So, Birva Pandya, Dan Beirne, Martin Roach and Jane Luk.
In the eight-episode The Institute , when 12-year-old genius Luke Ellis (Freeman) is kidnapped, he awakens at The Institute, a facility full of children who all got there the same way he did, and who are all possessed of unusual abilities. In a nearby town, haunted former police officer Tim Jamieson (Barnes) has come looking to start a new life, but the peace and quiet won’t last, as his story and Luke’s are destined to collide.
Beiser plays Norbert Hollister, owner of the town’s only hotel.
Walsh recurs as Annie, a colorful, paranoid local. Alexander is Kate, a local journalist who knows there’s more to The Institute than meets the eye.
When The Institute was published in 2019, it was originally acquired by Spyglass for the Mr. Mercedes team of writer/EP David E. Kelley and EP Bender. This is a new incarnation of the project with a new writer and studio.
The Institute follows another series by MGM+ based on King’s literary work, Chapelwaite.

Beiser recurred on Amazon’s The Boys, Star Trek Discovery and Pretty Hard Cases and appeared in a guest-starring role on Reacher. He is repped by The Characters Talent Agency.
Walsh’s recent TV credits include recurring roles on Syfy’s Resident Alien, CBC’s Hudson & Rex, and Little Dog , as well as numerous guest appearances on This Hour Has 22 Minutes. Her feature film credits include The Grand Seduction and Closet , both official TIFF selections, Mambo Italiano, Happy Plac e and most recently Deaner ’89. Walsh is repped by OAZ in Toronto.
Alexander’s breakout role came in HBO Max’s Gossip Girl as Julien Calloway. Her other credits include a starring role opposite Juliette Lewis and Ryan Kwanten in Blumhouse anthology series Sacred Lies: The Singing Bones. She also played the lead role of Nicole Jolly in the feature In The Black and recurred in season 4 of Starz’s Black Mafia Family. J ordan, who began her career as a singer/songwriter, released her debut album The Lonely Hearts Club in 2016. Her most recent single “You” dropped in the summer of 2020. Alexander is repped by Innovative Artists and Noble Caplan Abrams.
